Vulcan Vulcoder: Which Part Number do I need?

Re-Ordering a replacement Vulcoder can be a challenge, this handy guide should help you get it right!

How to Select the Correct Vulcan VSL Vulcoder Replacement for Your Onboard Scale System

When your Vulcan VSL onboard scale system isn’t reading correctly, one of the most common culprits is the Vulcoder. The Vulcoder is a key component that translates axle rotation into accurate weight data. If it fails, your scale readings become unreliable or you see Errors displayed on your V320 or V600 onboard scale display in the cab.,

Before you order a replacement, it’s important to make sure you select the correct Vulcan VSL Vulcoder part number. Ordering the wrong Vulcoder can mean wasted time, additional costs, and more vehicle downtime.

At Peninsula Scale, we make it simple to find the right replacement part for your truck or trailer.

Step 1: Locate and Identify Your Vulcoder

Check the Vulcoder mounted on your truck. Look for a serial number stamped on the housing or printed on the label.  If you want to stop there, you can simply email info@penmfg.com with your serial number and we will cross reference that to find the right replacement part number to order.

If the serial number isn’t visible, note the number of loadcell leads (black cables with the molded connectors) and the cable length of each —these details are essential for selecting the correct replacement.

Step 2: Match the Correct Number of Loadcell Leads and Their Lengths

Step 3: Confirm Cable Length & Number of pins

Cable length and connector style are the most common reasons customers order the wrong part.  Count the number of pins in the loadcell connectors.  Nearly all of them are a 4-pin Amphenol style connectors but a few rare cases are 7-pin connectors.

Double-check your system type, there are some special types for refuse systems designed for the front forks of waste collection vehicles.
